 Wheel Measurement Technology
The WheelScan system is a real-time wheel measurement system. The system uses a combination of lasers and video cameras to profile and measure the wheel. Mounted wayside in the track area, the system acquires images of the wheel profile as the railroad vehicle passes the sensor at track speeds. The WheelScan system acquires video images of the wheel profile and performs dimensional measurements and identification in real-time. This information is then compared to a railway's wheel criteria for exception reporting. This system can be easily integrated with other wayside instrumentation for comprehensive wheel analysis.
