GMS – Gauge Measurement Technology KLD Labs’ GMS incorporates the latest laser and video camera technology to provide immediate feedback on the gauge of the track while traveling at track speeds. Using this non-contact technology, the video cameras capture the cross-sectional railhead profile to allow comprehensive and continuous gage measurements. HOW IT WORKS: The GMS sensor heads are mounted beneath a railway vehicle. The central computer and peripherals are housed inside the vehicle. As the vehicle travels down the track, a laser system illuminates each rail as a high-resolution video camera records the rail profile for processing and storage on the central computer. The computer then displays the gauge measurements. This information is stored internally or communicated to other on-board computers. This easily allows for the transfer of data from the vehicle in a durable and cost effective manner. The data can then be easily played back in an office environment for further analysis.
